Some company will counteroffer their employees when they are resigning, however, a company should have a longer view that will employee stay for long by giving a counteroffer.

About half of employees who accept counteroffer will resign within one year.
There may be various kind of reasons such as "using a higher salary as a better stepping stone to get even higher salary in new job" or "the resignation reason are still existing". Whatever the reason may be, a company shall always factor in the situation of employee resigning within one year and get proper preparation.
