Wouldn't it be great if you knew exactly what questions a hiring manager would be asking during job interview?

We can't read minds, every interviewer is different. But, we can list down the commonly asked interview questions with answer.

If you prepare yourself before attending a job interview, you have a chance to give yourself an edge over the rest of the candidates. This can help to make a great impression to interviewer and increase the chance of being shortlisted.

1. Tell me about yourself

Now, deliver 1 minute’s speech to advertise yourself. Highlight your employment history and major achievement along your career path. Mention how your experience relate to the position and bring benefit to them. Imagine yourself telling a story to a good friend but don’t recite your resume. Don’t mention about your highly personal information such as marital status, children or political, etc. These can be sensitive topics that might against you as candidate.


2. Why do you want to work for us?

Don’t simply answer it by saying you need a job. NO! Potential employer does not want to hear this, he/she wants to know about your career goals and ensure you are sincerely interested in the position. Research the company such as the company web site and social media accounts, then mentioned 3 reasons why you like that company.


3. Why should we hire you?

Think about the areas in which you outshine others, such as experience, awards, technical skills, and training should be mentioned. Your answer should summarize the top 3 or 4 best reasons to hire you. Study the job posting and understand the requirements and qualities of ideal candidate they are looking for. Next, explain how your experience and skills make you the best fit for the job.


4. What was the reason for leaving your last job?/ Why are you looking for a new opportunity now?

For candidates who are currently employed or unemployed, there are many good reasons to leave a position but some that absolutely should not discuss in a job interview. You should never mention about boss issues, or unhappy with working condition. Bad-mouthing about your boss look extremely tacky and reason such as long working hours are to be avoided. Companies want to hire hardworking individuals. Do not leave a loophole in your presentation, make sure you clear about your priorities.


5. What are your weakness?

Choose the weakness that do not interfere with your expected duties at the job. Mention the steps you are taking to overcome the flaws of your personality. This will give interviewer insight into your level of self-awareness and commitment to personal growth. Avoid saying you can’t think of single weakness just because you didn’t prepare for the question properly. This answer will makes you look like you are an ego person or trying to hide something.


6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Interviewer would like to know your expectation for your career and how the position offered is align with your growth and goals. They care about career goals because they want to hire someone who is proactive, motivated, and able to work hard. Try to work out some realistic and gauge able goals. Also, you can focus on the kind of jobs you would eventually like to do after 5 years.
